Rural eco club projects

Building community, open knowledge and biodiversity—from Cuenca to the rest of Europe

EcoClub Projects was born as a European initiative to bring innovation, environmental care, and hands-on learning to rural areas. The project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ program of the European Union and brings together three partners committed to sustainability and digital education: FabLab Cuenca (Spain 🇪🇸), Buinho Creative Hub (Portugal 🇵🇹) and the coordinator Saliko Studio (Germany 🇩🇪).

Since its launch in 2024, EcoClub Projects has aimed to connect people of all ages through creative activities that combine technology, nature, and community. At FabLab Cuenca, we’ve turned this vision into reality through a growing local and international network.

A year of impact from Cuenca

Thanks to the enthusiasm of over 250 participants and strong collaboration with our European partners, we’ve reached milestones that represent a new way of engaging with our environment. Together, we’ve built over 60 birdhouses and 10 bat boxes using digital fabrication, developed accessible DIY wildlife cameras, and brought repair and technology workshops to rural areas in Castilla la Mancha, like La Melgosa and Villalba de la Sierra through our Mobile FabLab.

A map to observe and care together

One of the most meaningful results of this community-driven work is the creation of an interactive map. Anyone who has taken part—or wants to join—can now place their bird or bat house on the map, share observations, and help us monitor local biodiversity over time.

This map not only visualizes the impact of our actions, but also strengthens the growing citizen network around the project, promoting collaboration and learning across different experience levels.

Open knowledge for global impact

All the resources we’ve developed—construction plans, step-by-step guides, and DIY wildlife camera tutorials—are available as open knowledge. This means anyone can replicate, adapt, or improve on our ideas, making sustainable maker culture accessible to everyone.

We would like this information to keep evolving and creating impact beyond borders, inspiring active citizen involvement in protecting natural ecosystems.

We believe shared knowledge creates bigger impact:

Our community keeps growing

We’re excited to continue strengthening this amazing citizen network. Coming soon: new seasonal gatherings, expert residencies, and more repair and digital making workshops. We want every person who joins EcoClub Projects to feel empowered to contribute, learn, and become part of a real transformation.

🌱 Together, we’re building a network to care for biodiversity.
